Girls’ Generation Push Japanese Domination With ‘Paparazzi,’ 1 Million Albums Sold — Billboard.com

As I continue to cover the K-pop beat for Billboard.com, the super-popular Girls’ Generation recently hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Japan Hot 100 chart. I thought this would be a great time to look into some stats about the group and really see how they have been doing in the territory. Turns out, quite well. Working with director of charts, Silvio Pietroluongo, and the associate director of charts, Keith Caulfield, we reached out to SoundScan Japan and got some figures showing the Korean act selling over 1 million albums in the country. I saw this article as a way for the zealous K-pop fans (it was last reported that the K-Pop Hot 100 chart is the sixth most read on Billboard.com) to also take a look at our Japanese chart and for American readers to see this Korean act advancing out of their country very successfully.
