I had been observing the popularity of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” track skyrocket following a lip-synch video done by Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ashley Tisdale, and friends. While most song fads die down quickly, the song was rising both at iTunes and on radio. I had pitched this article for awhile for the magazine’s “Happening Now” section, a difficult section as the stories are decided that week and need to be in by Wednesday night with interviews and copy all ready to be turned in then. This story was eventually picked up when it realized this song was not just a flash in the pan track and is currently our country’s No. 1 song. Article featuring interviews with Jepsen, her and Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun, and Interscope vice chairman Steve Berman after the cut.
